Message from the Board
Welcome to the Engineering Management and Innovation Institute website. Our overall goal is to help Business owners, entrepreneurs, engineers, technicians, managers, professional craftsmen and school leavers add value to their God given talents and enterprises of all types and categories through the additional usable practical skills, technology, and innovation to improve their competitiveness and bottom lines. Our objective is to make a significant impact on Uganda and East Africa’s economy through creation of jobs and small-scale manufacturing businesses.
Like other Ugandan private institutions, we face challenges of a limited resource base and harsh economic realities. We are not scared by the challenges, but we are determined to provide what we regard as the missing link in our education system for a better future. The focus is in making it possible to improve the standard of professional services and products to ensure a more self-reliant and innovative work force.
Who we are
We are a unique vocational training institute in Kampala, Uganda. Currently, we are a National Vocational Certificate and a National Vocational Diploma awarding institution, and our programs are tailored to addressing real needs of our community. Among them, Hands-On Certificate in Computerized Graphic Designing, Metal Fabrication and Computer Aided Manufacturing & production Skills stem directly from the long years of leadership and excellence in signage manufacture and innovative engineering skills gained by our associate company, Standard Signs Contractors Limited (www.standardsigns.co.ug).
A few years ago, the Board of Directors of Standard Signs Contractors decided to establish their own training institute, not only to answer our continuous need for well-trained personnel but also to satisfy the needs of other organisations around us as it was clear that many companies had a similar need for well qualified and skilled personnel e.g. managers, supervisors, marketers, engineers, technicians and craftsmen. This idea also came up because most of the graduates we received from the traditional schools and universities had a lot of theoretical knowledge without adequate practical skills. The resulting institution provides entrepreneurs with a more qualified and practically skilled comprehensive labour-force and ensures a permanent place for entrepreneurs and craftsmen to continuously improve themselves.
Unique approach
Our Information Technology embedded training is intended to provide a realistic foundation for modern computer aided businesses and equip trainees with up-to-date, appropriate skills to meet the needs of a fast-growing technology environment. E.M.I. Institute serves manufacturers with on-the-job training programs aimed at helping their companies become more competitive through the application of lean principles, energy management, growth techniques, and related assistance. We help communities to adopt technology and use it to guide the difficult decisions they must make. East African region faces significant development and technology challenges ahead, and we work with the different sectors of; Education, Labour, Industry, ICT and with partner organizations in other countries to help address these issues.
